Charisma Magazine Daily Devotional RSS Feed Reader

One thing that bugged me about reading the daily devotionals on my phone is having to switch between different java apps for different devotional. Wouldn’t it be great if I just have one java app on my phone with all the different daily devotionals in it?

I did some experimentation with this idea last week, and here’s the result. A RSS Feed Reader embedded with different daily devotionals from Charisma Magazine’s RSS feeds.

The RSS feeds are taken from Charisma Magazine’s Daily Devotional RSS Feeds. Since the RSS content is embedded within the Reader, you can read this without having to go online with your phone. Download it and try it out.

So, what are the advantages of using an offline RSS Feed Reader with embedded content?

  1. You save money. There are no carrier charges involved, unlike Feed Readers that are connected online.
  2. No need to subscribe to a data package from your mobile carrier. Another money saver.
  3. It’s fast. No need to wait for the content to download before reading. It’s all in your phone already.

How do you update the feed content if it’s offline? That’s my next task. I need to work on a web application that automatically creates a new java app periodically with all your favorite daily devotional RSS feeds. This will work with any RSS feed reader and not just daily devotional RSS feeds.

For next month’s daily devotional jar file, would you still prefer a separate java app for each devotional or this new one single java app with multiple daily devotional? Let me know in the comments below.

    I think multiple daily devotional in one app would be great! That would save me some time to download and install just one app instead of 4. But make sure that the app will work with good speed (not lagging) :)

    Maybe you should provide single jar files, and one multiple for this month. So we can have a try!

      Hi Helen, Was just thinking the same thing, to let everyone try out the multiple devotional in one app for the month of April.

      Next month will be an exciting month. I’m working on getting the Heartlight website and Charisma Magazine daily devotionals into the RSS Feed Reader. More mobile daily devotional choices for everyone.
