Daily in Christ January 2007

31 Dec

Daily in Christ Book Cover Daily in Christ 1st January Article

I’m very excited about converting Neil and Joanne Anderson’s Daily in Christ into a monthly mobile devotional series. To me, Our Daily Bread is like spiritual milk, while Daily in Christ is like spiritual meat and potatoes.

You can read this daily devotional online at the Freedom in Christ Ministries website or at Crosswalk.com.

The book is available on Amazon.com and the description at the back of the book says;

“Do you long for a vital walk with God? Are you tired of trying to live the Christian life out of your own strength? Do you want to experience the reality of Christ in you?

With warmth and a sense of purpose, bestselling author Neil Anderson and his wife, Joanne, help you establish a faith rooted in the truth of God’s Word – indeed, Christ Himself. Day by day you’ll discover what it means to be a child of God and how that fact can powerfully impact the way you live.

Consider this book an invitation to grow in your spiritual life. Like no other, this uplifting devotional will encourage, motivate, and challenge you to live Daily in Christ.”

Get this for yourself and encourage a brother or sister in Christ to get this as well for the new year. God bless and have a Blessed New Year.

Back to the Bible Devotions for January

31 Dec

The mobile devotions for content taken from backtothebible.org is delayed because the backtothebible.org website doesn’t have any content for the first ten days of January. I will post the mobile devotions starting from 11th January for “Streams in the Desert”, “Prayer, Praise and Promises” and “Through The Year” in a few days time.

In the mean time, you can get the Our Daily Bread, Global Prayer Digest and Daily In Christ mobile devotions for your cell phone.

Update (1st Jan 2007):
The content for the 1st of January is actually available on the website. However, I can’t view the content for the 2nd of January up to 10th January by using the next hyper link on the web page showing today’s devotional. This means I’ll have to visit the backtothebible.org daily to download the devotionals for the first ten days of January. I will only post the mobile daily devotions for “Streams in the Desert”, “Prayer, Praise and Promises” and “Through The Year” after the 10th of January.

Editorial for January 2007

Dear Praying Friends

Rarely do we cover an area of the world that has so many unreached people groups that are engaged, meaning that there is an active effort to reach them for Christ. I am deeply moved to hear about all the efforts of Serving In Mission (SIM) International, the Southern Baptists, the JESUS Film Project, and others. One of the privileges of being on staff at the U.S. Center for World Mission is that I can hear about recent breakthroughs, most of which I cannot publish for security reasons.

Recently I heard about an unreached African people group where their local Muslim leaders are coming to Christ. I don’t know the name of this people group, but I do know this: Someone understands that the way to reach a people group is to win the leaders first.

Yet I can’t help but think that many more peoples would come to Christ if He wasn’t mistaken for the leader of a foreign religious system.

These last two days I have heard of two other instances where Muslims are embracing Christ. These Muslims call Him “Isa,” which is His Name in the Koran. These followers of Isa maintain Islamic cultural practices, and shun the term “Christian,” a word that carries much cultural baggage.

Instead of being rejected by their families and communities, they can be ambassadors for Christ among them if they don’t appear to be rejecting their heritage.

Let’s pray that Christ will be heralded among Africa’s Muslim peoples, not as a foreigner, but as the One who saves sinners and gives life abundantly.

In Him,
Keith Carey

Google Trends on Mobile Phone, Cell Phone and Handphone

27 Dec

Here are some interesting statistical information on “Google Trends on keyword search for mobile phone vs cell phone vs handphone”:http://www.google.com/trends?q=cell+phone%2C+mobile+phone%2C+handphone.

Google Trends on cell phone vs mobile phone vs handphone

From the Google Trends statistics, people in US and Canada tend to use the term cell phone, while those in Australia and Europe uses mobile phone. Those of us in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia prefers handphone.

In the past, the term cell phone is rarely used in this site. Anyone searching for daily devotions for cell phone on Google will rarely find this site. I will start using the term cell phone in place of mobile phone in this site in order to make it easier for those looking for daily devotions on cell phone to reach here.

For those who are wondering about the January 2007 edition of Our Daily Bread for cell phone; it should be out within the next couple of days. :-)

Daily Devotions in Different Languages

7 Dec

Anyone interested to read mobile daily devotions in Chinese, Spanish, Romanian, Filipino or other languages?

I had a few request for mobile daily devotions in languages other than English. After giving this some thought, I’ve decided to seriously look into having non-English versions of mobile daily devotions. The only problem is the issue of getting the right content.

Chinese, Hindi and Spanish content should have great appeal based on the number of native speakers of these languages according to Wikipedia. For a simple start, someone could translate or find a translation for the Twenty Cans of Success and Who I Am In Christ for the Freedom in Chirst java applications.

The file format that is used for the mobile daily devotions content is a modified version of the “RSS file format”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_%28file_format%29. As an example, here’s the content for Who I Am In Christ.

If you’re interested to take up this task of translation or providing content for daily devotions, you can contact me using the contact form.
