New Home for my Nikon D50

23 Apr

A Five Million Dollar Home for my Nikon D50!

Two weeks after getting the “Sinking Barge”:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?link_code=ur2&tag=livingonthefo-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&path=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2FB0009Y9KAS%2Fref%3Dpd_sxp_grid_pt_1_0%3F%255Fencoding%3DUTF8 photo backpack for my Nikon D50, I realized that a smaller bag would be more practical. So, I went back to the Crumpler shop to get “The Five Million Dollar Home”:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?link_code=ur2&tag=livingonthefo-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&path=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2FB0009Y9K76%2Fsr%3D8-3%2Fqid%3D1145814000%2Fref%3Dpd_bbs_3%3F%255Fencoding%3DUTF8.

I took both camera bags along for my recent trip back to Penang. The Five Million Dollar Home was home to my Nikon D50 and my iBook went in the Sinking Barge.

Destiny and Trisha’s Paintings

23 Apr

We had dinner in Sg Long last night. My mum-in-law made lotus root, peanut and pig-tail soup which Lincoln and I love. Yum-yum! What a delicious meal!

After dinner, Trisha showed us Destiny and her paintings from their art class. We were very impressed by the colorful paintings.

Back to Penang

16 Apr

Four days three nights in Penang.

What did we do?

We celebrated mum’s birthday with a dinner at the Secret Recipe Restaurant near Tesco.

Aaron and Vivien cooked char-koay-teow and porridge for us.

We went fishing at the Batu Ferringhi beach and visited the Waterfall Garden. We also dropped by the Chowrastar market in Penang Road to shop for nutmeg and pickled mangoes. More photos at my photo gallery.

Trip to Taiping

13 Apr

Serene and peaceful Taiping.

Karen and I had a relaxing time in Taiping just enjoying the beautiful lake gardens. We stayed at the Sri Malaysia Hotel near the lake gardens for a night. We spent a morning and an evening just walking around the lake gardens and taking photos.

DIY Toilet Repair

9 Apr

“Dear, the toilet flush is not working!”

The toilet flush in the attached bathroom of the master bedroom stopped working last week. We had the same problem with the flush in the hall toilet early this year. There was a damaged part (don’t know what it is called) in the flush mechanism. My dad and I fixed the first problem in January when he was in KL.

I made a replacement from an old plastic table mat.

Since, I have done this before together with my dad, this was a simple DIY job of

  1. Detach the water tank from the toilet bowl.
  2. Remove the flush mechanism from the tank.
  3. Replace the damaged part.
  4. Put it all back together.

Observation Skills

4 Apr

Argh! My poor observation skill.

I’ve been learning in my Tuesday night class about observation skills when reading the Bible. One thing that I realized about myself, is that I like to read fast and I read different types of reading material pretty much the same way. Since I read the newspaper, a magazine, technical manuals and the Bible nearly the same way; suffice to say, my observation skills has plenty of room for improvement. I’ve decided to work on this. For a start, I am reading ‘the classic guide to intelligent reading’ – How To Read A Book by Mortimer J. Adler & Charles Van Doren.

Interpreting The Scriptures

3 Apr

I have been attending a class on ‘Interpreting The Scriptures’ every Tuesday night in my church. It’s a 12 lesson course to learn the principles and methods of observation, interpretation and application of Scriptures.

One of the books that I’m reading for the class is How To Read the Bible For All Its Worth by Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart. The book teaches on how to read the different genres used in the Bible and the importance of understanding the literary and historical context of Scriptures. What did the writers of Scripture meant to convey to its original audience? How we apply Scriptures into our lives should come from an understanding of the original meaning. After 8 weeks, I’m still at the second chapter ‘The Basic Tool: A Good Translation.’ :-P
